Not everyone who is arrested and taken into custody in Contra Costa County will need to work with a bail bondsman in order to get out of jail.
In some cases, if the charge is relatively minor, the defendant may be released on a “cite out”. In this instance the jail would provide the defendant with a citation and will let them know when they are due to appear in court. Examples of offenses that may be eligible for a cite out are being drunk in public or a basic first-time DUI.
A basic first-time DUI is one in which there was not an accident, the defendant did not attempt to flee, there were no minors in the car and they did not resist arrest. People arrested for first-time DUI are often taken into custody for 8-10 hours in order to allow time for them to “sober up”. If this person was arrested because they got into an accident, there were open containers in the car or they have additional DUI offenses on their record, you may need to hire a Contra Costa bail bondsman.
