Sources within the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that a 51 year-old Oakland man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to rob a bank teller at a grocery store-based bank branch.
Shawn McGee is being held at the Martinez Jail, they said, pending his arraignment. Bail bonds information for the defendant was not immediately known.
A spokesperson tied to the investigation said the suspect walked up to a teller, pulled a gun and ordered that person to empty their drawer. McGee ran off with an unknown amount of cash and used a vehicle to help aid his escape.
Witnesses were able to provide Antioch PD officials a description of the robber and the car he drove off in. A highway chase ensued, they said, and the man eventually pulled over and tried to getaway on foot.
He was eventually apprehended, police said, and the stolen money was recovered.
The defendant is currently facing charges of evading police, making terrorist threats, burglary, robbery and other felony offenses,
