Sources within the Lafayette Police Department said officers are still searching for a woman who stole a wallet out of a restaurant patron’s purse. From there, the thief took approximately $2,000 from the victim’s bank account and went on a shopping spree.
Lafayette PD officials said the theft took place on Saturday afternoon inside a busy restaurant. The victim hung her purse on the back of her chair, they said, and right around the time she stepped up to leave she saw her wallet had been stolen.
The thief had already made off with $2,000 in cash from the victim’s bank account and had made a handful of purchases at local stores.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information as to the identity of the thief to please step forward. Tips can be placed anonymously at 866-846-3592.
When the suspect is taken into custody she will be booked into the Martinez Jail on felony theft charges. Her bail bonds are expected to be set in excess of $30,000.
