Sources close to the Martinez Detention Facility have confirmed that a man who has been accused of killing a local teenager is being detained pending million dollar bail bonds.
Police say the 22 year-old suspect was arrested at the end of last week after a patrol officer found him in Martinez. He was taken into custody without incident.
A Pittsburg Police Department spokesperson said the defendant is the prime suspect in the Tuesday murder, when a 19 year-old man was gunned down just before 6 a.m. while driving his car. Although his name has not been made public, a hospital representative confirmed he died from his injuries.
Officers have not yet said whether this incident is related to another recent shooting, in which a 22 year-old male was murdered in the same neighborhood. It’s also unclear whether the current crime is gang related, which could come with a sentencing enhancements should the defendant be found guilty.
