Members of the Orinda Police Department have been busy in the past week. A number of people have been arrested, they said, and many continue to be detained at the Contra Costa County Jail.
At least one person has been detained on charges relating to carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, driving a vehicle with a fake license plate and driving on a suspended license. That individual is also being charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. Other recent arrests include persons who were in possession of stolen property, conspiracy, possession of a forged check and grand theft. Bail information for the defendants was not immediately available.
Two members of the Orinda Police Department were integral in the arrests. Two of the suspects were reportedly detained in the parking lot of a grocery store. One man had a loaded firearm and the other had outstanding warrants. Officers proceeded to check their vehicle. It was at that time that they found tens of thousands of dollars in cash in addition to a long list of stolen items. Police say the men robbed a major department store earlier that day.
Store management has confirmed the men have been seen stealing liquor and food from the store on numerous occasions. They are happy to see the men behind bars. The defendants are set to be arraigned later this week.
