A representative from the San Ramon Police Department said investigators captured the final suspect accused of robbing a local jewelry store.
The incident took place last year. One of the robbers sustained a fatal gunshot wound at the time Gold N Treasures was being held up. The newly arrested suspect has been identified as 21 year-old Manuel Arroyo. He was reportedly captured in Oakland.
San Mateo Police officials say they have long suspected that Arroyo was connected to the crime. Local law enforcement officers helped set up surveillance of what they believed to be his residence.
Police saw a man matching the suspect’s description departing the home in a vehicle. They pulled him over a few blocks later, checked his ID and arrested Arroyo on a warrant. He was transported to the Contra Costa County Jail where he remains in custody. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
Arroyo is being detained on a list of charges including homicide and suspicion of robbery.
San Ramon Police believe that he and three other suspects entered the jewelry store last year. Two of the robbers were taken into custody in June 2012. They have also been charged with murder. Witnesses say they believe that only one of the men had a gun at the time the incident took place.
It is unclear how the third robber was shot, but he collapsed outside of the store. Medical professionals transported him to a local hospital. he died a short time later. The remaining trio fled the scene of the crime in a white sedan.
Each of the suspect is being held on more than a million dollars bail each. They could all face years of prison time if they are convicted.
